CDI principals and employees have always taken active roles within our community, particularly in the areas of animal welfare and domestic violence.
Broward County Humane Society: We adopted 2 handicapped dogs, after fostering them at the request of the BCHS! 3-legged therapy dog, Roo Roo, won enough votes to appear on the 2011 Broward County Humane Society calendar as "Mr. October"! See his baby photo in the gallery to the right, which is how we originally met him 13 years ago, alongside a photo years later in his therapy dog uniform. Domino suffered severe physical and mental handicaps after being hit by a car before we met her. ASPCA Bust367 rescue Fawn was another failed foster and husky Cheyanne, shown, has multiple birth defects.
Memorial Hospital:Charlotte, hospital volunteer with Roo Roo, wrote guidelines for Pet-A-Pet therapy pet team volunteers; now the model throughout the Memorial Regional system. Charlotte w/Roo volunteered at Memorial Regional and Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital for 8 years. Charlotte served on the Board of Directors for Memorial Regional and DiMaggio's Auxiliary 2009-11. Charlotte served as newsletter editor 2010-11.
Canine Assisted Therapy (C.A.T.):Charlotte served as editor of C.A.T.'s on-line newsletter. Roo received the Advanced Therapy Dog Certification and AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) award!
Charlotte and Roo participated in the Spring 2012 Hospice by the Sea's Camp Good Grief, & Roo is one of the first 2 Courthouse Dogs in Broward County! Trained through the Guardian ad Litem program, they work in dependency court with children in the foster care system.
